Bell Ringer: Is frying an egg a chemical or physical change? Why?
Next we watched more of October sky and then we went over common mistakes people make when conducting experiments and students started outlining their science fair projects. Outlines are due next time!

October 25/26
Bell Ringer: I put water in a balloon and then I microwaved it and the balloon expanded. Explain why this happens using the following terms: evaporation, volume, thermal energy, gas, liquid.
Next students were given popcorn and they were supposed to tell whether popping popcorn is a physical or chemical change and why. Then we started watching October Sky and I met with students individually to discuss their ideas for science fair projects.
Make up: Bell Ringer and popcorn question. 3 ideas are due!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oops! I forgot to post!
Bell Ringer: Tell whether the following properties are physical or chemical: density, volume, will rust, mass, dissolves in water, color, boiling point, flexibility, reacts with acid, flammable, melting point, transparency.
Next we did a candle lab-no make up.

October 5/6
Bell Ringer: Draw a nitrogen atom
First we took a periodic table quiz (arrange a make up time). Next we took some notes on physical and chemical properties here is the key. Then we did a gas expansion demo and a gas contraction demo and answered questions about them (arrange a time to see these after school). Then last of all students finished up their green packets and turned them in with their element report attached.
Make Up: Bell Ringer, Quiz, Notes and demo questions.

October 3/4
Bell Ringer: Draw and label a helium atom.
Next we reviewed the periodic table and then we practiced drawing atoms using the periodic table as a guide. Students completed a worksheet where they drew atoms and then they completed their element report and did page 4 in their green packet if they finished early.
Make Up: Bell Ringer, draw an atom (get from me), finish element report (green packet)
