January 30th

For the bell ringer, students answered questions about a food web I drew on the board.  Next, we discussed what a biome is and then students chose a biome to create a food web.  Students used iPads and the links below to research the plants and animals from their biome to create their food webs.
Make up:  Create a biome according to the specifications in the post below.

Use the following links to create your food webs posters:
Rainforest
Tundra
Taiga
Desert
Temperate Forest
Grassland
Rivers and Streams
Ponds and Lakes
Wetlands
Shorelines
Temperate Oceans
Tropical Oceans

This is what you need to include on your food webs:
Title: Write the name of your biome in large letters
Organisms:  include at least 10 organisms
Arrows:  draw arrows showing the flow of energy
Sun:  make sure to include the sun and show its role in the food web
Attractiveness: add pictures to make your poster pretty-I will be hanging them up.
Names:  of all students in your group

January 24

No bell ringer today.
Today students worked on creating vocabulary posters and some students retook the test.  Then students shared their posters with the class so everyone could write down the definition.  Last of all, we watched "What is Ecology?".

Bell Ringer:  Describe how carbon cycles through the environment.
Today students spent time making carbon cycle comics.  They have instructions in their green packet.  We also spent time reviewing photosynthesis and respiration.

Bell Ringer:  Without looking at your notes, write the equation for photosynthesis.
Today we began by setting up a seed germination lab.  We are running this experiment as a class and we will be making observations over the next few weeks.  Next, we completed pages 2 and 3 in your green packet.

Today I passed back your scores on science fair and your notebooks.  District science fair is on February 20th, so if you are interested in attending let me know so that I can give you an application.  All students who attend the district science fair will receive a medal.  Today we started to go over photosynthesis.  Please get a notepacket from me too.
