August 21

1) Today students filled out "About Me" sheets and received their folders.  Please get both from me when you return to class.

2) Next, students drew a picture of a scientist and we discussed what a scientist does and how everyone can be a scientist.

3) We did an observation scavenger hunt.

5) We talked about the differences between observations and inferences.

Biome Project

You will draw one of the following biomes out of my jar and then you will use the links below to complete your assignment.

Use the following links to create your food webs posters:
Rainforest
Tundra
Taiga
Desert
Temperate Forest
Grassland (either African Savannah or North American Prairie)
Ponds and Lakes
Wetlands
Shorelines
Temperate Oceans
Tropical Oceans

This is what you need to include on your food web posters:
Title: Write the name of your biome in large letters don't forget to add your names too!
Organisms:  include at least 10 organisms and identify them as consumers, producers, and decomposers
Arrows:  draw arrows showing the flow of energy
Sun:  make sure to include the sun and show its role in the food web
Attractiveness: add pictures to make your poster pretty-I will be hanging them up! You can write the names of your organisms if you don't want to draw them.
Habitat Description:  briefly describe your biome.  Where on earth are they found

October 7

1) Bell Ringer: Students were given a frootie and they had to list 5 physical properties of a Frootie and 1 chemical property of a Frootie.
2) Next, we did a candle lab (see me for make up)
3) Last of all, we began watching October Sky and students were given the opportunity to complete make up work.  I met individually with each student who has a grade lower than an A and each student received a progress report.  End of term is October 24th.

1)Bell Ringer:

  • List the parts of an atom.
  • Look at Hydrogen on the periodic table and answer the following:
    • Atomic #:
    • Atomic Mass:
    • Atomic Symbol:
    • Number of protons:
    • Number of neutrons:
    • Number of electrons:
2) First we took some notes on atoms (get a packet from me).
3) Next, we completed "What's in an atom?" (in packet)
4) Then we worked on drawing Bohr models of atoms (in packet)
5) Last of all we began our element reports.  Students were assigned an element to research.  Here are some helpful sites for researching your element:

3) Metrics Unit Final Quiz-come before or after school or during Falcon Time for makeup
