Bell Ringer:  List 3 characteristics of a mineral
First we reviewed the characteristics of minerals and then we worked on Mineral Mania an internet activity.  Then the students worked on a mineral crossword puzzle.

February 21/22

Bell Ringer:  What is a mineral?
After the bell ringer the students turned in their notebooks/bell ringers.  I also reminded students that their endangered animal report was due.  Next we went over minerals using this worksheet and powerpoint.  Last of all we did a short mineral lab using mineral samples and then the groups started building crystal gardens.

No bell ringer.  Today we went to the computer lab to research an endangered animal.  This is the rubric for the assignment.

February 14/15

No bell ringer.  Instead students reflected on their Yellostone projects (get ws from me).  Then we discussed why organisms go extinct and then we watched some clips from "The Loneliest Animals" and took notes.

February 10/13

No bell ringer.  Today students were given 20 minutes to finish up their Yellowstone posters and then they presented their information and posters to the class.

Bell Ringer:  We identified producer, heterotroph, autotroph, primary consumer, secondary consumer, predator/prey, and an omnivore off of a food web.
Next we worked on our Yellowstone posters.

First we watched this screen cast by Miss Price on how to do research.  Then we went to the library to conduct research on Yellowstone for the rest of the period.

Bell Ringer:  List as many different types of scientists as you can.
First we discussed the different types of scientists and what they study.  We talked about how scientist specialize in certain areas and then they are able to share information.  We completed this worksheet.  Next students chose research groups and a specialty in science to research Yellowstone National Park.  Next we played ecology Scattergories (B2 watched the Life series the "Hunters and the Hunted".
